UN Biodiversity COP16 Report 2

The Brahma Kumaris at UN Biodiversity COP16 in Cali, Colombia, October 21 – November 1, 2024

The BK Green Team was involved in many events at COP 16 during October 22-27, engaging in a range of activities across both official and public spaces. They attended sessions that focused on Indigenous rights, biodiversity loss, human rights, and innovative technology. Team members contributed by networking, sharing experiences, and promoting the theme of “making peace with nature.” Highlights included sessions on Indigenous-led biodiversity solutions, sustainable agriculture, and rights-based conservation approaches.
The Green Team also hosted events, like “Awakening Consciousness for Sustainable Development,” which emphasized personal and collective responsibility and fostering resilience by awakening consciousness to align with nature and “Transitioning Towards Living in Harmony” which delved into finding balance amidst ecological “chaos.” Using metaphors like the life cycle of a flower, speakers advocated for viewing challenges as natural and necessary and emphasized Indigenous wisdom and sustainable practices to create harmony by living according to values of respect, cooperation, and humility. Together, these sessions underscored the power of mindful transformation to drive environmental resilience.
Throughout the week, the team distributed “peace with nature” blessing cards and participated in discussions with parliamentarians and faith leaders, advocating for spirituality as essential to biodiversity conservation. Their involvement underscored a commitment to holistic approaches in addressing environmental and cultural challenges.
