Raising ambition and accelerating action – the Brahma Kumaris at UNCCD COP16

The sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 2 to 13 December 2024. UNCCD COP 16 is more than a critical milestone – it represents a moonshot moment to raise global ambition and accelerate action on land and drought resilience through a people-centered approach.

Sowing the seeds by the Brahma Kumaris

As part of the BK Environment Initiative, an international BK team will be present in Riyhad for COP16. Meet the team. The Brahma Kumaris's approach to regenerating the land and building drought-resilient communities is rooted in sowing the seeds of change in the consciousness of individuals. By restoring and empowering ourselves to become more compassionate, respectful, courageous, and determined, we can act for the benefit of both people and the land with an attitude of brotherhood and care for our shared home, the Earth. The delegation will lead or participate in several activities, including panel discussions,
round-table dialogues, and a pavilion.

Report 1,BK at UNCCD-COP16

The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP16 convened in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 2–13, 2024. Touted as the largest UNCCD COP to date, the event saw almost 25,000 individuals registering for the public “Green Zone” and more than 20,000 participants in the official “Blue Zone.” The delegation from the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University actively participated, promoting spiritual awareness as a powerful tool to combat land degradation, desertification, and drought. By fostering values such as peace, compassion, and joy, the Brahma Kumaris support individuals in restoring ecosystems, complementing legislation and technological solutions.

Report 2,BK at UNCCD-COP16

During COP16 in Riyadh, the Brahma Kumaris delegation conducted approximately 40 programs and participated in various other events, serving as a platform to share their message: "Sowing the Seeds of Change for Our Future." Their initiatives included daily reflection and meditation sessions in both the Blue and Green Zones, an official COP16 side event, panel discussions and workshops at the Restoration Pavilion by the G20 Land Initiative, and many interactions at the Inspired by Faith Pavilion, among others.
