4th Report from UN Climate Change Conference COP29

11th – 22nd Nov. 2024 Baku, Azerbaijan

The Climate conference is entering its second week. But there is already mounting frustration about the progress on climate finance. There are calls for the countries to set aside their differences and come together for a deal, but that’s easier said than done.

In addition, three of the five leading research groups monitoring global temperatures consider 2024 on track to be at least 1.5C (2.7F) hotter than pre-industrial times. They say it’s almost impossible to avoid at this point because we’ve just waited too long to act.

However, the Cop29 talks in Baku have maintained calls for action to stay under 1.5C. Yet the 1.5C target now appears to be simply rhetorical rather than scientifically achievable.

It’s probably dawning on the COP29 hosts that they need to up their game to make any progress. Time is running out, and with just over 100 hours left on the clock for the conference, the coming week will definitely be interesting.

The BK Green team has lined up another array of talks, press conferences, and live studio sessions to spread the message that an inner transformation brings the needed solution for the world.

Sister Maureen received an award from Mohamed Bahr from the Muslim Council of Elders on behalf of the Brahma Kumaris for their contribution to the Faith Pavillion. The Pavilion unites religious leaders to address climate change and environmental justice.
