In celebration of nature, and encompassing Mother Earth Day (22 April) and Environment Day (5 June), we invite you to join in on 7 special conversations with some members of the International Brahma Kumaris Environment Initiative team where we will harvest their experiences, ideas and perspectives about nature, the environment and the work they do.

Episode 1 :

Our first conversation in Eco Yogis: Conversations on Healing Nature from the Soul is with Sonja Ohlsson, Founder and Coordinator of the BK Environment Initiative.
Sonja Ohlsson was instrumental in founding the Brahma Kumaris Environment Initiative. Together with a core team since 2009, Sonja has overseen many environmental programs organised by the Brahma Kumaris around the world and prepared delegations and papers to conferences on climate change (COP) biodiversity, (BIOCOP) and sustainability. Sonja shares how she became involved with the Brahma Kumaris; how the BK Environment Initiative came about and its purpose; how a meditation group can impact action on climate change and environmental care; how we can deal with feelings anger and hopelessness about the environment; projects that she is proud of, and what her vision for the future of the Initiative is.

 


Episode 2 :

Join us to hear Golo Pilz’s story. Golo is the Adviser to the Brahma Kumaris on Renewable Energies. He has led many solar power projects for the Brahma Kumaris, the largest being a 1 megawatt thermal power station which generates heat and power for 25,000 people at the Brahma Kumaris' Shantivan Campus in Abu Road, India and delivering off the grid electricity for a further 10,000 residents of Mt Abu. We will hear where his interest in the environment emerged from; how from being an apprentice builder in Germany, he became an expert on renewable energies, large solar power projects and an international speaker; and what his vision for our future world is.
Eco Yogis - Conversations on Healing Nature from the Soul is a special series of interviews with some main members of the Brahma Kumaris Environment Initiative team. Each episodes unfolds an extraordinary journey of an Eco Yogi who has spent their time and energy spreading awareness about the environment at an International level. Each Yogi will offer a 7 day challenge to listeners and a serene meditation to heal ourselves and nature.

Join us to hear Carolin Fraude’s story. Carolin has been a delegate at many UN Climate Change Conferences and does some very interesting work in researching mindsets and tools to help people change ingrained beliefs and points of view. She will share how mindset shifts can support new ways for people to communicate and collaborate to bring about positive and transformational action in the environment/climate change arenas. We will hear a little about her environmental activism days and a powerful spiritual experience she had during what had become a violent demonstration, and how her spiritual lifestyle and meditation practice helps her in her work. Join us to hear Valeriane Bernard’s story. Valeriane is the NGO Representative of the Brahma Kumaris to the United Nations in Geneva. Valeriane will share with us how she came across the Brahma Kumaris, how the Brahma Kumaris are connected to the United Nations and the work she does as the NGO Representative to the UN. She will tell us about her long standing interest in the well-being of the vulnerable and the work she continues to do with women, people most impacted by climate change and her work with interfaith communities. Valeriane will also share what her vision is for her work with the BK Environment Initiative in the coming years. Join us to hear Juan Vazquez Milling’s story. Juan is the NGO Youth Representative of the Brahma Kumaris to the United Nations. He shares a fascinating spiritual journey and what he sees is the link between spirituality and the environment. We will learn what a Spiritual Ecologist and Sacred Activist are and what it means to be a Messenger of Hope. Juan shares about interesting projects like 'Eco Shanti' and 'Climate Reality' and his involvement with youth, interfaith and the United Nations, and where he sees our future going. Episode 6:

Join us to hear Rebecca Attwood's story. Rebecca coordinates environment activities for the Brahma Kumaris Environment Initiative in Australia. She will share with us a little about some of the Initiative's projects in Australia and how the Eco Yogis series came about. She will also share what the environment means to her and from where her interest in it arose, in what ways she thinks the lifestyle and practices of the Brahma Kumaris help heal the environment. Join us to hear Sister Jayanti's story. Sister Jayanti is the main representative of the Brahma Kumaris to the United Nations in Geneva and the Director of the Brahma Kumaris in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Sister Jayanti will share with us a little background about the environmental work the Brahma Kumaris has been involved with before the establishment of the BK Environment Initiative in 2009 and what her role and interest has been. She will share how the Brahma Kumaris positively impacts the environment, where she sees this work going in the next 10 years, and what it is that faith communities can offer that other sectors of society can't. Sister Jayanti will also share her thoughts on the lessons Covid19 has taught us and what she has personally learnt from this experience, the need for humanity to slow down, live more simply and cultivate contentment, and steps we can take to accomplish this.
