BeatPollutionImageThe third session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) took place in Nairobi from 4 – 6th December 2017.  UNEA was created as a result of the call made by world leaders at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), held in Brazil in June 2012.  Its aim is to strengthen and upgrade the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to be the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda. Brahma Kumaris actively supported this meeting.

UNEPOn this first day of the assembly, The UNEP President gave a powerful address to the assembly, there was a well-attended side event, the first by faith-based organizations at a UNEP event and the exhibition stand was very busy and popular.  There was also a talk held at Strathmore University.  The team have been busy.

GIraffeBrahma Kumaris are actively supporting the United Nations Environment Assembly 2016 (UNEA-2) in Nairobi, Kenya.  This report describes some of the preparation work and events that have been organised by way of training, talks and exhibitions.  It also gives news of a side event called “Exploring the role of the faith community to the Sustainable Development Goals”.   This is a break through event being held for the first time at a UNEA assembly.  The team also managed to fit in a safari visit to the Nairobi National Park.

sdg logoThe UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) will convene for the second time (UNEA-2) in 2016. The UNEA of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) represents the highest level of governance of international environmental affairs in the UN system. 

The Brahma Kumaris will be participating in a moderated informal discussion on "Exploring the contribution of faith communities in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals" (Green room, event 6).  It wll be focused on creating and enhancing partnerships at local and global levels in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
